Starter Set of Centers of Excellence Lessons includes the following: Paying It Forward, The Newlyfed Game, Grocery Shopping Make Over, Liquid Candy, Metabolic Magic, and Success Habits Concentration Game. (These lessons were included in training courses held from June 2008 - May 2009)

Success Habits™ Concentration: This fun game is a great way to introduce or review the Success Habits™ Principles with your group. Match the Success Habit™ Icon with the Value Statement that goes with it; then review principles of each habit. Lesson includes laminated game cards & instructionsPaying It Forward: This activity will help the group recognize themany changes that have taken place in their thinking and activities after WLS. It will help prospective patients start to realize the possibilities for their future. It will also help the supporters to see the improved quality of life their support has brought to the patient.The Newlyfed Game: This fun, interactive game will help those in attendance recognize what good eating habits they need to develop after weight-loss surgery. The "Newlyfed Game" is played with 3 teams (1 patient and 1 supporter on each team) who try to match answers about developing good eating habits.Grocery Shopping Makeover: To encourage group members to give their Grocery Shopping Habits a Makeover and exchange old shopping habits with a new, healthier outlook. Includes tips and shopping techniques that will encourage healthier buying.Liquid Candy: This board discussion and demonstration will help your group understand the danger of drinking too many calories and will encourage them to use their knowledge of these principles to make good healthy beverage choices.Metabolic Magic: This creative discussion and activity will help your group understand the importance of finding the balance between the food they eat (calories in) and their exercise (calories out). The activity will provide each participant practice in using the rules or tricks necessary to make metabolism magic work for them.Label Reading Mania: This fun lesson is designed to help all in attendance understand the value of label reading in their WLS journey. This activity will encourage group members to share their knowledge of label reading with others and also give new label readers experience in reading labels. Power of Protein: This activity will help the group begin to identify which foods are the highest in proteins. It will also help members to make healthier nutritional decisions as they recognize the protein, carbohydrate and fat content in foods.
Carbs – The Good, The Bad and The Ugly: This interactive lesson about Carbohydrates will assist your group in learning and understanding more about proteins, complex carbohydrates, refined carbohydrates and very refined, more concentrated simple carbohydrates. The Effects of Alcohol: This informative activity will help group members understand the effects of alcohol and why they need to be extra cautious before consuming alcohol. This plan includes a fun relay activity showing the effects of alcohol.
How Sweet It Is: This discussion and demonstration will give the group a better understanding of Natural Sugars, Sugar Alcohols and Artificial Sweeteners and how they affect us.The Best Prescription – Exercise Survival: This motivating lesson will encourage and motivate the group to recognize the need for and benefits of exercise. Each person will have an opportunity to fill out their personal Fitness Goals certificate and will go home with an exercise survival kit.Metabolic Shuffle – Metabolism & Exercise: Designed to help your group members understand how exercise affects their metabolism, this fun, creating lesson features the "Metabolic Shuffle" Concentration Game with sneaker cards and prizes for the winners.Vita Man Dating Game: This lesson is designed to give your group members a better understanding of a variety of vitamins so they are prepared to make the best choice of vitamins for themselves.Iron Insights: This lesson is designed to help WLS patients understand more about their need for and the importance of iron. Discussion includes information on iron overload, and iron deficiency. Activity is a fun review of the principles by playing Four Square or Tic Tac Toe.Success Habits Bunko: Help your group members both learn and internalize the Success Habits and also learn about each other in this fun version of Bunko. 9 dice 12,score cards & signs and instruct ions are included.Success Habits Password: Test your Success Habits™ skills as you play this fun packed game of clues and guessing words that are weight-loss related. Word cards & instructions.
